Children's Mental Health & Wellbeing: prevention and early intervention
Do you over-function or under-function during bouts of anxiety? Are you emotionally vulnerable with your child? National charity, Place2Be joined the Dukes Club speaker series with Regional Clinical Lead Cecilia Coletta affirming the need for self -awareness and self-care in parenthood to model self-regulation for your child. Cecilia shared the screen with Knightsbridge School’s Place2Be Project Manager, Paula Losch and Clinical Lead, Annie Evans who opened with some worrying statistics on the state of children’s mental health post-pandemic.
With 1 in 6 of the children they support suffering from probable mental health issues, the informative talk emphasised the importance of building resilience, understanding behaviour and increasing emotional intelligence. Cecilia joined Annie to delve into empathic behaviour management – to understand and respond from a thoughtful place; how to model positive relationships, normalize feelings and develop emotional regulation from a young age.
One key takeaway in the fast-paced, ever-evolving social world we live in is to stop and listen without distraction, give your child the undivided attention they need to identify how you can help them to regulate without rescuing them. Watch the webinar to learn more on these pivotal areas of prevention and early intervention.
