The Five Steps: Solutions to anger and anxiety in children
Director and Trainer of Brave the Rage, Julie’s energy and passion for this topic was unequivocal. The audience were taken through the unnerving statistics of how gaming and smart phones have impacted academic achievement and the worrying trust that children have for online friendships.
During the workshop, Julie discussed the various stages of loss, the need for patience and your undivided attention. Within this, she listed the different styles of anger - identifying role play as a fantastic way to dig deep into the minds of children, who don’t necessarily have the confidence to tell all, by embracing the silliness and demonstrating the consequences of anger vs assertiveness. If you can identify what makes you snap it may help you understand your child’s anger issues.
In this session, Julie equips the audience with the skills, tools and techniques to build a child’s confidence, self-esteem and control over their emotions. She also expressed the importance of giving your child the decision to think about what they would have done differently for an alternative outcome to entice independent and critical thinking.
To conclude, Julie draws on the self-fulfilling prophecy that without personal wellbeing a child cannot access social and academic success.
