For students planning on applying to Oxbridge, the interview is the final hurdle before finding out if you have been awarded a place, and the prospect can leave students feeling rather nervous.
Alicia Luba, first-class Oxford graduate and director of Oxbridge Applications, talked to Dukes Club members about how to prepare themselves.
So how do you ace an Oxbridge interview?
As the Oxbridge interviews are currently online, Alicia shared her tips on how to make a good first impression, which is more challenging than it is in person. She encourages students to bring energy and enthusiasm to the interview to truly make an impact and stand out.
Alicia explains that the interviewer is principally looking for students that match their tutorial style of learning they offer at Oxbridge. They are looking for candidates who participate, are engaged, forthcoming in verbalising their thoughts and undeterred by difficult questions.
Consider the reasons you are applying to Oxbridge. Interviewers are looking for candidates who can show that they are genuinely passionate about their subject. Alicia’s advice is to be enthusiastic and informed. Do not rely solely on the information you have provided in your personal statement but be able to demonstrate that your knowledge is broader. Universities are looking for students who have genuinely gone above and beyond.
