On Thursday evening, internationally acclaimed and London-based contemporary artist Adam Ball welcomed us to his home for a private viewing of his new and not yet exhibited work. “I like to live with my art before it leaves,” Adam told us as Dukes Club members were treated to an up-close and personal view of his art.
As well as an intimate preview of his latest work, Adam entertained us with a short talk about famous artists and gave a brief history of their own artistic journey. Guests were treated to insights into the creative process behind some of the pieces on display – created as we discovered not too far away in his studio – as well as a deeper understanding of his overall body of work.
We also learned more about the power of contemporary art to captivate audiences and even improve their wellbeing. He outlined research by colour scientists that showed how the presence of art in hospitals aided patients’ mood, and sped up discharge times, freeing up beds earlier. This greatly influenced his first public commission at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge which was directly influenced by those who work at the hospital and welcomes patients and staff with a positive environment.
We thank Adam for opening up his home to give Dukes Club members this exclusive experience; attendees were thrilled to have the opportunity to see his work in such an intimate setting.
