Hair-raising histories in the holidays
Dukes Study Club children were immersed into Ancient Egypt during an interactive online workshop this week. Our mini members demonstrated their own knowledge of the era and went on to learn more about pyramids and mummies led by tutor and history enthusiast, Joanna Caputo. Using their imaginations, students were captivated as they took a trip inside a pharaoh’s tomb. Minutes later, ingredients covered the worktops as the children were taught all about mummification with a live experiment incorporating all sorts of props – who knew a tomato could represent a pharoah’s body! They also stepped into the shoes of an ancient Egyptian and discovered how to write in hieroglyphics - once they had mastered writing their name, Joanna played a fun game with the class to try and crack the codes. There were a number of budding comedians in the group who were able to tell Ancient Egyptian themed jokes. “It was a joy to work with such engaging students,” Caputo commented when the workshop came to an end.
