Dukes Study Club - amazing animal handling
“The animal handling was amazing! I learnt how to tell if a cat, dog or rabbit is feeling stressed or anxious and what to do to make them feel comfortable. I also learnt how to handle and look after tortoises.” This is what 8-year-old Tilly had to say about the Dukes Study Club animal handling activity led by trainee vet Margaux Corpe.
Margaux started this interactive session with fun facts about dogs, cats and rabbits. For example, dogs are descendants of wolves, cats sleep for 18 hours a day and rabbit’s teeth grow forever. She went on to explain how to identify an animal’s mood and how we should adjust our behaviour when approaching them.
This engaging online lesson taught children all about the special features of each animal, including the fact that dogs have very special ears, that cats have eyes that can see in the dark, and how over time animals adapt to their environment.
