Dr Ricard Tavares demystifies the application process for Medical School
But help was at hand for Dukes Club members when Dr Ricardo Tavares, an Oxford graduate and founder of The Medic Portal, presented ‘How to succeed in your Medical School application’ in an exclusive online event.
During the webinar, hosted by Joss Williams, Headteacher at Earlscliffe, Dr Tavares shared some of his extensive knowledge of the process and highlighted everything an applicant needs to do to increase their suitability. The webinar offered an honest insight into the complexity of exams, work experience and deciding on the right university.
Tavares demystified each stage of the application process, reiterating the need for lateral thinking, problem solving and a strategic skillset. He had many tips to pass on, such as knowing your most effective style of learning is imperative to success, how many BMAT universities should be applied to and why and even identified the curveball subject for a fifth option on the UCAS form.
Tavares’s commitment to supporting aspiring medics was clearly apparent. For anyone contemplating a career in Medicine at Oxbridge he posed them a question: “A South American tribal hunter paralyse and kill a sheep using a poisonous dart. The tribe feast on the dead sheep, why do they not suffer the same grave demise as the sheep?”. If you know the answer perhaps you’ve got what it takes to follow in Dr Tavares’s footsteps.
