'Never have to ask your child twice'
Halligan was a very engaging and personable speaker; she encouraged participation from the listening audience, taking questions as she explained the ‘Three Steps to Maximising Cooperation’. Halligan identified how each individual has their own needs and agenda in life, but we mustn’t forget those of a child’s - it’s too easy to curb their curiosity and imagination to meet our own needs; Halligan’s thesis is that we must start thinking about what our children would like to achieve too. Halligan explained to parent listeners about the desired ‘magic ratio’ of positive to negative comments vital to grow self-esteem and nurture cooperation for a more relaxed and happier environment in the home. Not restricted to early years’ parenting, her methods aren’t just about meeting the emotional needs of pre-schoolers. She helps you communicate with teenagers, too – follow her rules and they’ll be tidying their room in no time.
